The Power Of Commenting On Other Blogs

Many a time you will see advice given by professional bloggers to new bloggers that includes the same old line: “Visit other blogs. Comment on other blogs”
“Is there really a need to?” you ask yourself. Isn’t it enough that I give out good content, post regularly, ping every blog network around, and submit some good articles to article directories?
Not really. Comments are very important. Visiting other blogs is very important, especially if the blogs are about or around your topic. It’s always good to see what the other fella is writing about, how his traffic is like, the numbers of visitors and comments he has on his post, and how he monetizes his blog. In other words, be a spy. Other bloggers are both your friends and your competitors.
Read the posts by other bloggers. There is always something new, something interesting, which could help you in your approach to certain topics, for example, and also give you something new to write about in your own blog. If the topic is well written, make a comment in the comment section. Write something constructive. This will make the other blogger, as well as his readers, sit up and take notice, and usually come visit your blog. Isn’t this what you wanted in the first place? Commenting on enough blogs and posts in a particular topic will make you an authority on that topic (usually) and does nothing but good for you. Do not flame or make critical or stupid comments. All you get will be more trouble for your efforts, and the victim of your criticism will be looking out to get you. Leave trackbacks to make it easier for people to follow you back to your blog.
