Make Money Online Through Affiliate Marketing

Wikipedia definition of Affiliate Marketing: A method of promoting a business (the advertiser/merchant) on the web in which the affiliate (publisher) is rewarded for every visitor, subscriber, customer and/or sale provided through his efforts.
This is a major way by which you can make money online. The most important step is to have a post in which you make your (usually positive!) comments about the products or services of a merchant and in your post, insert a link to the merchant which the interested reader will click on to find out more about the product or service. Once there, should the reader make a purchase or sign up (as the case may be, depending on the desired action as defined by the merchant), you will be paid a commission by the merchant for the sale.
This is in contrast to the contextual ads (such as Google Adsense and Bidvertiser) on your site in which the reader is expected to look around and get interested in an eye-catching ad. And click on that. Then you earn a small commission on the click.
Affiliate marketing is a very popular business arrangement. For the merchant, there is no cost and no risk to him – because of the internet, the market is huge and the customers unlimited. There is no salary that he needs to pay, no advertising costs to bear, no overheads to cover at all: only the commission to the affiliate when the sale is made. For the affiliate, the customers are his readers, and obviously the bigger his readership, the higher the number of people who will click on the link he has provided. He does the marketing, and the merchant pays him only when there is a definite action performed (clicking and signing up or purchasing).
Commissions available are anywhere between 10% - 80% of the purchase price. It does not follow, however, that you should be marketing products that cost thousands of dollars in order to make a lot of commission. Remember that the higher the price, the lower your chances of a sale, as there definitely will be a smaller market for what you sell. It would be far more sensible to sell something that costs, say, between $10 and $500. The market would be far bigger for products in this price range, since they will be seen to be more affordable, and your volume of sales will more than make up for the perceived lower commission.
Know your product. Don’t try to sell airplanes if your only exposure to them is from sitting on a flight from New York to Los Angeles. In your mind, you must feel that the product is good, useful and saleable, and that you can, with some good post, actually interest your reader to click on your link to the merchant.
